Over time your phone will slow down due to a number of reasons. However, it does not have to be that way. Heres 3 simple tips to optimize and speed your phone up.
This is the most simple but possible the most effective solution. Completely shut down your phone. Then after about 5 minutes start it back up.
The reason why this simple solution works is that over time and apps that we use, our phones start to build up files in it's cache, background processes are still running and a whole bunch of your phones RAM (Memory) is used up. A simple shut down and restart clears your RAM and cache and kills any unnecessary background processes.
Ask yourself when was the last time you had a full shutdown and restart? People tend to just plug and charge when their battery is low. Unless you find yourself being out and about without a charger, it's likely that you'll go days or weeks without a full restart!
A good rule of thumb is before you plug in your phone to charge and head to bed, do a restart, then plug it in. That way your phone is ready for the day in the morning.
It seems like every day there's a new app and the average person uses 9 to 14 different apps in a day. With every app you open a portion of your phones RAM (Memory) is given to that app to use.
On average, phones typically have anywhere from 2gb (lower for basic or older models) to 10gb of RAM. So if you are opening a ton of apps and your not actually closing them, your just switching to another app or to the home screen, you risk running out of RAM (very bad).
On android and ios when you just switch out of an app, the system suspends the app and doesn't actually kill it. So a good thing to make as a habit is to fully close all apps 2 to 3 times a day.
Swipe up to reveal a list of currently running apps.
Swipe up on apps you want to close or swipe all the way to the left and press "Clear all" to close everything.
Swipe up or press the home button twice to reveal a list of currently running apps.
Swipe up on apps you want to close.
Another simple tip is to backup your photos and videos to Google Photos or iCloud and then delete them off of your device. So your photos and videos will be stored in the cloud and you can still access them from your device but your freeing up space on your device.
This freed up space allows your system to properly find files it needs and if you were low on space it allows updates (which may be critical) to be installed.
There may still be other factors slowing down your phone such as malicious apps installed on your phone, software bugs or erros, etc. If you can't figure it out, give me a call and I can help.
